Grand Staircase-Escalante Monument

Encompassing land that was the last to be mapped in the contiguous United States, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, or GSENM for short, is a collection of remote canyons and plateaus covering over 1.8 million acres of land. The “Grand Staircase” is like an extension of all the smaller steps found in the Grand Canyon, these remaining steps are very grand in scale and stretch from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon all the way to Bryce Canyon National Park, which is the final step in the Grand Staircase.

However, GSENM is lot more than just a bunch of grand steps. Some of Utah’s best slot canyons, which are some of Mother Nature’s finest sculptures, are scattered across this national monument. One of the most exciting developments in understanding the age of the dinosaurs is unfolding in the middle of GSENM right now.

Although most of our tours traversing GSENM touches just a sliver of it using the All-American Scenic Hwy 12, there is so much more to see here. Check out the itinerary on our exclusive Canyons of the Escalante tour that focuses just on this remote region of Utah.
